The opportunity

In an industry where the ability to react and adapt to often unpredictable threats is paramount, Rapid7 knows better than most how important it is to adopt a working environment to improve the employee experience.

Value delivered

Rapid7’s commitment to employee-centric workplaces, community impact, and innovative design, validated by Leesman data, has delivered high employee satisfaction, community engagement, and effective cybersecurity solutions. This strategic approach positions Rapid7 as a leader, fostering a positive workplace culture while maintaining a strong focus on adaptability and client relationships.

Background

Starting both projects in 2018, Rapid7 has since created two outstanding workplaces in their Boston and LA offices. In October 2020, both achieved the coveted Leesman+ certification – positioning them in the upper echelon of workplaces we’ve measured across the globe.

Approach

Rapid7, a prominent cybersecurity provider, attributes its successful years in business to the development of simple and innovative solutions for organisations. Recognising the critical nature of adaptability in the cybersecurity industry, the company places a strong emphasis on improving employee experience to enhance its overall effectiveness.

In 2018, Rapid7 initiated projects to create exceptional workplaces in its Boston and LA offices. Both locations achieved the prestigious Leesman+ certification, positioning them among the top workplaces globally. These environments were meticulously designed with employee expectations at the forefront, utilising the Leesman survey process to incorporate their input. Boston and Los Angeles offices achieved impressive Leesman Index scores (Lmi) of 84.0 and 81.5, respectively, reflecting the success of this employee-centric approach.

Rapid7 aimed not only to provide outstanding experiences for its employees but also to create welcoming spaces for clients and visitors. The lobby of the Boston office, designed to be semi-public, received high praise, with 98.8% of employees expressing pride in bringing visitors to their workplace. This commitment to a non-corporate atmosphere extended to the LA office, where 100% of employees felt supported in informal social interactions, and 89.3% agreed that the workplace promoted a positive corporate image.

Recognising the importance of community impact, Rapid7 engaged with ArtLifting, a local company assisting homeless individuals in commercialising their artwork. Displaying this artwork in the office not only enhanced the workplace but also contributed to a sense of community, with 92.3% of Boston employees acknowledging the positive impact.

While the trend in 2019 leaned towards flexible workplace strategies, Rapid7 chose designated workstations in both offices. This decision was based on insights from Leesman surveys, emphasising the need for a tailored approach to desk assignments. Surprisingly, this departure from the trend did not compromise employee experience, as demonstrated by high satisfaction rates in collaboration and accessibility.

Rapid7 leveraged Leesman data to inform its design decisions, ensuring alignment with employee preferences. The data acted as a point of substantiation, validating the positive impact of the new environment on employee experience.

Looking ahead, the company plans to utilise Leesman data and workplace sensors to refine future strategies. Additionally, an innovation budget in Boston allows for ongoing experimentation to evolve the workspace continually.

In summary, Rapid7’s success lies not only in its cybersecurity solutions but also in its commitment to creating employee-centric, community-oriented, and innovative workplaces. The company’s strategic use of data and dedication to ongoing improvement positions it at the forefront of the cybersecurity industry’s evolving landscape.
